Facebook ads getting no leads? 9 reasons and how to fix each one
Facebook ads getting no leads? Here are the 9 most common reasons for local service businesses and exactly how to fix each one.
If your Facebook ads are getting no leads, the cause is almost always one of nine things: the wrong campaign objective, a budget too small for Meta to learn, an offer nobody needs today, creative that doesn't stop the scroll, a broken or clunky form, tracking that isn't firing, targeting squeezed too tight, an ad account with a delivery problem, or leads that are coming in but not being followed up. Below is how to spot each one and exactly how to fix it.
Work through them in order. The first three cause most "no leads" problems we see, and they're the quickest to check.
First, check you really have zero leads
Before changing anything, open Ads Manager and confirm what is actually happening. "No leads" can mean three very different things.
- No impressions: the ads aren't being shown at all. That's a delivery or account problem (reason 8).
- Impressions but few clicks: people see the ad and scroll past. That's an offer or creative problem (reasons 3 and 4).
- Clicks but no leads: people are interested but something breaks after the click. That's a form, landing page or tracking problem (reasons 5 and 6).
Also check your inbox and the Leads Center on your Facebook Page. Sometimes leads are arriving and simply not being seen.
Quick diagnosis table
| What you see in Ads Manager | Most likely reason | First fix to try |
|---|---|---|
| Lots of reach, cheap clicks, no leads | Wrong objective (traffic or engagement) | Rebuild as a Leads campaign |
| "Learning limited" on the ad set | Budget too small or too split up | Combine ad sets, lift daily budget |
| Low click-through rate (under about 1%) | Weak offer or creative | New hook, clearer offer, real video |
| Good click-through rate, few form submits | Form or landing page friction | Fewer fields, faster page, test on your own phone |
| Leads in your inbox but zero in Ads Manager | Pixel or event not firing | Check Events Manager, fix the lead event |
| Few or no impressions | Narrow targeting or account restriction | Broaden location, check Account Quality |
| Leads arrive, nobody books | Slow or no follow-up | Call or text within five minutes |
1. You chose the wrong campaign objective
Meta gives you exactly what you ask for. If you pick Traffic, it finds people who click. If you pick Engagement, it finds people who like and comment. Neither group is likely to fill in a quote form.
The fix: use the Leads objective, and optimise for the lead itself (an Instant Form submission, or a lead event on your website). Boosted posts fall into the same trap. A boost from your Page is fine for reach, but it isn't built to get enquiries.
2. Your budget is too small, or spread too thin
Meta's delivery system needs results to learn who converts. Its long-standing guidance is roughly 50 optimisation events a week per ad set to get out of the learning phase. Most local businesses won't hit that, and that's okay, but splitting $20 a day across five ad sets means none of them ever learns anything.
The fix: run one campaign with one or two ad sets and put your budget behind them. Then work backwards from your cost per lead. If leads in your trade cost around $40 and you want a few a week, a $10 daily budget can't get there. Our guide on how much Facebook ads cost in Australia has typical ranges to plan with.
Give any change at least five to seven days before judging it. Editing every day keeps resetting the learning.
3. Your offer gives people no reason to act now
"Quality plumbing, call today" is not an offer. It describes you, not what the customer gets. People scrolling at 9pm need a clear, specific reason to put their name in.
The fix: make the offer concrete and low-risk. Some examples that work for service businesses:
- Free measure and quote within 48 hours
- Fixed-price service with no call-out fee in your suburbs
- Same-week availability for the next five bookings
- A free inspection or check with a written report
Then say who it's for and where. "Hoppers Crossing homeowners: free split system service check this month" beats a generic brand ad almost every time.
4. Your creative doesn't stop the scroll
The ad is now the targeting. With broad audiences and automated placements, Meta uses your creative to work out who to show it to. A stock photo with your logo tells it very little and tells the viewer even less.
The fix: lead with real video of you, your team and your work. Open with the problem in the first three seconds ("Hot water gone cold?"), show the result, then the offer. Phone footage is fine if it's well lit and the sound is clear. Run three to five different creatives at once so Meta can find what works, and replace the losers every few weeks.
Weak creative is the first thing we check in a free ad audit, because it's the most common reason a sensible campaign still gets nothing.
5. Your form or landing page loses people
If your click-through rate looks healthy but leads don't come, the problem is after the click. Every extra field, slow page load or confusing step costs you enquiries.
The fix for Instant Forms: ask for name, phone, suburb and one qualifying question. Turn on the higher intent setting if you're getting too many junk leads, but expect fewer leads in exchange.
The fix for landing pages: one page, one offer, one button. It should load in a couple of seconds on mobile data. Put the form above the fold and remove the main menu so people can't wander off.
Then click your own ad on your phone and fill in the form. It often uncovers a broken link or a thank-you page that never loads.
6. Your tracking isn't telling Meta about the leads
If you send people to a website, Meta only learns from leads it can see. If the Pixel isn't installed, or the lead event fires on the wrong page, Ads Manager shows zero results even when your inbox has enquiries. Worse, Meta is optimising blind.
The fix: open Events Manager and check your lead event fired in the last 24 hours. It should fire on the thank-you page or form submit only, not on every page view. Setting up the Conversions API alongside the Pixel helps fill gaps caused by browser privacy settings.
For bigger accounts, Meta's Conversions API for CRM lets you send back which leads actually became jobs, so it can optimise for quality. Meta's own documentation recommends this when you're generating at least 200 leads a month, so it's a later step for most local businesses rather than a first fix.
7. Your targeting is too narrow
A 3km radius, three interests and a 35 to 44 age band can leave Meta a tiny pool to work with. Costs climb and delivery stalls.
The fix: set your location to the areas you actually service, then keep the rest broad. Let the creative and the offer do the filtering. If you need to exclude people, do it in the ad copy ("Homeowners in Wyndham only") rather than with tight audience settings.
One exception: if you're a clinic or allied health provider, your targeting and ad wording also have to respect AHPRA advertising rules, including no testimonials for regulated health services.
8. Your ad account has a delivery problem
Sometimes ads look active but barely spend. Common causes are a rejected ad, a payment method that failed, a spending limit you forgot about, or a restriction on the account or Page.
The fix: check the Delivery column in Ads Manager for anything other than "Active". Then open Account Quality in Meta Business Suite to look for restrictions, and check your billing and account spending limit. If an ad was rejected, read the reason, fix the wording and request a review rather than creating a copy of the same ad.
9. Leads are coming in, but nobody follows up fast
This one hides in plain sight. A lead form submission isn't a job. If you call back the next afternoon, that person has often already booked someone else.
The fix: get every new lead sent straight to your phone by text or email, and respond within five minutes during business hours. If you can't answer, send an automatic text that says when you'll call. We cover why this matters so much in why a missed call costs you more than a bad ad.
A simple 30-minute check you can do today
- Confirm the campaign objective is Leads.
- Check Delivery and Account Quality for any warnings.
- Look at click-through rate. Under about 1% means fix the offer and creative first.
- Fill in your own form on your phone.
- Check Events Manager shows your lead event firing.
- Count your ad sets. If you have more than two on a small budget, combine them.
- Check how fast your last five leads were contacted.

Quick answers
Why are my Facebook ads getting clicks but no leads?
The problem is after the click. Check your form or landing page on your phone, cut unnecessary fields, make sure the page loads quickly, and confirm your lead event is firing in Events Manager.
How long should I wait before deciding my Facebook ads don't work?
Give a new campaign at least five to seven days without edits, and enough budget to get some results. Judging after one or two days usually leads to the wrong call.
How much should I spend on Facebook ads to get leads?
Work backwards from your cost per lead. If leads cost $30 to $60 in your trade and you want five a week, plan for roughly $150 to $300 a week, then adjust once you have real numbers.
Are boosted posts good for getting leads?
Not usually. Boosts are built for reach and engagement. For enquiries, build a proper Leads campaign in Ads Manager.
Why are my Facebook leads not answering the phone?
Most often it's timing. Leads go cold fast, so contact them within minutes. If quality is the issue, add a qualifying question to your form or switch on the higher intent form setting.
